Sony’s compact zoom HX80 features a variety of advanced imaging capabilities including 30x optical zoom, a high-resolution 18.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and a retractable OLED Tru-Finder. The company notes the camera and the HX90V are the only compact high-zoom cameras with a retractable electronic viewfinder.
The HX80 also features a high-resolution LCD screen that tilts a full 180 degrees for comfortable arms-length selfies and is Wi-Fi / NFC compatible.
The lens is a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* with 60x digital zoom capability. Optical SteadyShot with 5-axis image stabilization minimizes the effects of camera shake. Full HD movie shooting capabilities include high-speed XAVC S format at 50 Mbps.
The camera has a built-in ‘pop up’ flash and is compatible with Wi-Fi / NFC for seamless wireless transfer of content and with select Sony PlayMemories camera apps.
The Sony HX80 will be available in April for about $450.
