Made in Germany, the Leica X-E features a fast lens, the best materials and a premium finish, notes the company, with titanium look to the body and control elements matched to its silver lens. Leather trim with a metallic look rounds it off.
With technical specifications based on the X2, the X-E has a professional APS-C-format CMOS sensor with more than 16.5-megapixels (16.2-megapixels effective). Leica notes each individual pixel on the sensor is very large and therefore gathers more light, for low image noise, a high dynamic range and accurate colour differentiation.
The crop factor of the sensor is 1.5 in comparison with the 35 mm film format, meaning the Leica Elmarit 24 mm f/2.8 ASPH. lens becomes an effective 35 mm, with eight elements in six groups and one aspherical lens.
The camera offers clearly laid-out functions and intuitive handling, says the company, along with both automatic and manual setting options.
In live-view mode, its high-contrast 2.7-inch monitor offers control of composition, framing and exposure.
The X-E sports a lightweight but rigid full-metal body.
Other features: Focusing is via one-point or 11-point, spot, face detection; exposure modes are P,A,S,M; exposure compensation is ±3 EV in 1/3 EV steps; bracketing; metering is smart multi-segment metering, centre-weighted metering, spot metering; max ISO is 12,500; shutter speed range is 30-1/2000 sec.; max 5 fps.
