Panasonic Lumix 45-175 mm lens

Panasonic has announced the Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175 mm f/4.0-5.6 ASPH./Power O.I.S. lens, the company’s first digital interchangeable lens with electric-powered zoom operation. It marks the launch of Panasonic’s premium lens brand “X” which is compatible with the Lumix G series cameras – the just announced DMC-GF3X and, with a firmware upgrade, the GF3, G3 and GF2.

The company says the new lens features superb image rendering for lifelike textures and crisp, edge-to-edge contrast. A Nano Surface Coating technology minimizes reflections at the entire visual light range resulting in a dramatic reduction of ghosting and light flare, and outstandingly clear picture quality.

Using a Multi-Actuator Floating Inner Focus System to control three lens groups separately the 45-175 mm lens is smaller in both size and weight, measuring about 90 mm in length and 7.4 oz. in weight.

The lens has a zoom ring, allowing for manual zoom control.

The new lens system features two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) lenses which suppress chromatic aberration and contributes to sharp and detailed images throughout the entire zoom range.

With an improved sensitivity of the gyro sensor, the new Power O.I.S. also suppresses large, slow movements two times more effectively while small, fast movements are compensated by the conventional Mega O.I.S.

The lens has seven aperture blades to help produce an attractive smoothness in out-of-focus areas. Adopting an inner focus system driven by a stepping motor, the optical design of the lens supports Light Speed AF of approximately 0.15 sec., and fast aperture control results in a shortened shutter time lag of approximately 20 percent when compared to the 45-200 mm lens.

The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175 mm f/4.0-5.6 ASPH./Power O.I.S. lens will be available in black with a suggested retail price of $549.99.

Panasonic also has announced the Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42 mm f/3.5-5.6 O.I.S. lens. This is a collapsible lens with a lever-operated powered zoom, the same lever controlling manual focus.

The diminutive lens is approximately 26.8 mm in length and weighs approximately 3.35 oz.

It will be available for an MSRP of $449.99.
