Liquid Image masks

Liquid Image is big in sports equipment, specifically goggles and masks with built-in cameras – photo and video – for motorcycling, off-roading, snow sports, swimming, and scuba diving activities. The deal here is you don’t need to attach a camera to your head/helmet or vehicle, or hold it in your hands.

Case in point, the Liquid Image Freedom Series motorcycle goggle with an integrated digital video camera. The goggle’s 62 degree lens lets you capture the views from the open road without having to hold on to the camera. The goggle has a 1.3-megapixel (1280 x 960) camera mode and a video mode that records VGA video (640 x 480) at a rate up to 30 frames per second, with audio. There is a button for On/Off/Mode and another button for the shutter. To record a photo or a video, turn on the camera, choose the mode, then press the shutter button. Indicator LED lights inside the goggle signal the mode to the user. The main buttons are positioned along the upper right side of the frame. A third button sits on the lower right side to activate a high power LED flashlight. The camera operates on an internal rechargeable lithium battery. The battery performance for video is approximately 1:30 hours of video. The internal memory is 2GB and will to record approximately 3,000 still images or 45 minutes of video.

I’m not sure I like this name: the Impact Series HD is a motocross/off-road goggle with an integrated HD camera. The goggle has a 159 degree wide angle lens. The hands free unit has a 5.0-megapixel (2560 x 1920) camera mode and a video mode that records HD 720p video (1280 x 720) at a rate up to 30 frames per second, with audio.

The company’s original Summit Series Video Camera Snow Goggle, announced early this year, was intended to offer D1 video. Due to the discontinuation of certain chipset components, the company says, the camera specifications have been modified. An HD model was already in the works for release in January 2011. That release date was moved up to replace the original D1 model. The Summit Series HD Video Camera Snow Goggle can hold a Micro SD/SDHC card up to 32 GB and has an internal rechargeable lithium battery with estimated battery performance of 2 hours of HD video.

The Freestyle Series is a swim goggle with an integrated digital camera. The goggle has a 62 degree lens, for use while swimming and playing in water to a depth of 15 ft. The hands free unit has a 1.3-megapixel (1280 x 960) camera mode and a video mode that records VGA video with audio.

The Wide Angle Scuba Series HD322 Camera Mask has a 136 degree wide angle lens and HD 720p video. The lens modification more than doubles the current Scuba Series HD320’s field of view underwater in High Definition while snorkeling or scuba diving. It records HD 720p video along with 5.0-megapixel still images. The depth rating on this new model is 40m/130 ft.

Apparently Liquid Image products are available in Canada, handled by LEI Electronics, in Barrie, Ont.
